Our History

Our History

Omni began its ministry as a Mission in the home of Elder Rebecca Roberts on March 2, 1992. It was impressed upon her through much prayer and fasting that it was time to launch out into the deep. She was instructed to open the ministry in Compton and she obeyed. So, she along with her daughters and son in law began eagerly looking for a place to worship. After looking at many buildings, the Lord led her to 1315 N. Bullis Road with her brother, four of her children, ten grandchildren, and one of her son in laws.

When Omni was born, our leaders were told that the church would not last six months before it failed. But whose report are we to believe? Since opening the ministry was “Spirit Led”, (Jesus’ spirit), Omni decided that we will believe the report of the Lord. Upon Omni’s opening, the Lord had blessed tremendously. Our then pastor, Elder Roberts could not have asked for a better armor bearer and business manager, than Minister Doretha Cooper. Minister Cooper didn’t know it at the time, but she was being groomed for succession. We had a group of young people that love the Lord, and this church. In the first year, we were established, the Lord added souls to the ministry, emphasizing the teachings of the Apostles, and the importance of being faithful and dedicated to God first.

Minister Doretha Cooper was ordained in 2012 and on June 1, 2014 the mantle for the Pastoral-ship of Omni Ministries was passed to her. With the purpose of winning souls for the kingdom (not church members), Dr. Cooper began leading Omni Moving Forward in Christ, so that we can become Difference Makers that are Spirit Led and Fully Persuaded, as we are Taking it by Force, knowing that It’s a Done Deal.

Omni now has a group of people dedicated to the spiritual and physical growth of the ministry. We are an outreach ministry, which thrives on “servanthood”. There was a mandate on this house, to be debt free, not only the church, but also each home represented at Omni. Our instructions are to be Word giants, not just hearers, but doers of the word. On December 19, 2019, we paid off our Rosecrans edifice. Because of her obedience keys were handed to Dr. Cooper for a larger building, immediately after the building was paid off. As of June 28, 2020, we moved into our new edifice here in the city of Compton. A special service called “The Expansion” was conducted on July 5, 2020, where our new edifice was dedicated to the Lord.

The scripture in Habakkuk 2:2-3 talks about writing the vision, and the vision that God had given our leaders, was to (1) open a daycare center for low in-come families, (2) to establish a home for battered women and children, and (3) to open a thrift store that would serve the community.

Today, our outreach program includes: the Omni Community Development Center, directed by Sister Bunny Cooper, a nonprofit organization, that has been developed to serve. A new program established under the Center called “One Stop” that is spearheaded by Pastor LaTroice Vallejo. The “One Stop” program assists the needs of the community by locating housing for those in need, such as, Canaan House, a home for battered women and children, Jacob’s House for men that are homeless, recovering, and just out of prison, Lynwood Healthcare Center seeing to the needs of the elderly and their families, a daycare center for low income families, a thrift store that is opened seasonally to assist the needs of the community, and a food drive program.

The Center continues with the tutoring program, tutoring subjects from English to Physics, with the help of volunteers specializing in those areas. Annually, we serve full hot thanksgiving dinners on Thanksgiving Day, we serve coffee and donuts every 3rd Saturday of December, hosted by the Center, and on Christmas Eve we serve hot soup and cornbread and distribute clothing and gift bags.

We are honored that the Lord has given us the mission to serve. Join us in prayer as we carry out the vision, purpose, and plan of God.
